HOW:
"Whispers" club meetings: These are meetings held in schools to empower, sensitize
and provide girls with relevant, accurate information. Soul Talk counselors
conduct these meetings. The meeting topics are chosen with the contribution of
the girls and interactive discussion sessions are held.
Soul Talk will establish "Whispers" clubs in
30 schools and will visit each club three times a week. The clubs will discuss
empowerment and leadership; improving positive self-esteem, self-confidence and
self-awareness; power dynamics within relationships; comprehensive sexual
health; and preventative messages on school-based sexual violence.
Additionally,
Soul
Talk counselors will conduct one-on-one counseling, bringing at-risk
situations to the attention of school authorities.
Bantaba
Workshops: These
workshops are held at least twice a month to help empower the girls and promote
the rights female children. Facilitators are drawn from various walks of life
to talk to the girls on pertinent topics. The workshops will also include
interactive discussions, drama/songs, puppet shows, and small-group work.
Radio
Chat Shows/TV Preventative Messages:
Soul
Talk will design and air weekly, hour-long radio chat shows aimed at
sensitizing girls, as well as the public at large, about issues pertinent to
increasing equality between women and men. The radio chat shows will also
provide a forum for girls to discuss and air their views. Soul Talk will design and
deliver a series of one-minute public service spots on television in which
women's empowerment messages are delivered through drama or puppet shows.
Counselors/School
Authorities Workshop:
Soul
Talk will conduct five counselors workshops throughout the year to
bring together school counselors and authorities to discuss policy issues and
ensure that there is a safe environment for girls in school. Target schools are
encouraged to institute girl-friendly policies and adopt a zero tolerance
stance towards sexual abuse in schools. The workshops will include
concerned parents, police, medical authorities, representatives of the
Education Department, teachers, and union leaders.
