KEVIN WARR, PhD
Executive Director and CEO



Dr. Kevin Warr, the founder and Executive Director of The Abundance Fund, is a seasoned international development professional with over 15 years experience in the international development field, including working for USAID, the World Bank, and private voluntary organizations in Africa.

He has created and implemented over 20 development programs in 15 countries, which have been distinguished by their excellent results. He has extensive project evaluation experience and has a track record of effective communications with business leaders, Congress, international organizations, policymakers and NGOs. Dr. Warr thrives on creating big achievements out of ambitious ideas.

He holds a PhD in International Relations from the American University, with concentrations in African Politics, comparative politics, and international relations theory. He also has done extensive academic work on the interplay between politics and religion, as well as the implications for democracy of a global civil society.

STEPHEN DEMPSEY, CPA, MBA
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER



Stephen Dempsey brings exceptional management experience and creativity to The Abundance Fund. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Legal Administrator and has extensive experience as a human resource professional and manager. He has outstanding communication skills and is an expert at defining and implementing best management practices. He has used his creativity and skill to add value to a number of legal practices in Texas and Washington, DC and is highly respected in his industry.

An authority in workplace diversity, Mr. Dempsey has served as Chair of the Association of Legal Administrators Diversity Task Force and the ALA Committee on Diversity. He has lived and worked in Mexico and is fluent in Spanish.

Mr. Dempsey is currently the Director of Administration at Sidley Austin's Washington, D.C. office.






GARY SMALTO, MD, MBA



Dr. Smalto brings a unique blend of medical and business skill to The Abundance Fund.

Dr. Smalto is currently the President of Effective Healthcare Solutions, a consulting firm dedicated to helping healthcare professionals navigate the changes in the US healthcare system. 

Prior to Effective Healthcare Solutions, Dr. Smalto was Senior Director and Business Development Specialist for H*Works Consulting, a division of The Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC. He has over 19 years experience in medicine, surgical operations, and medical marketing and has implemented operational programs in over 30 hospitals involving over 150 staff. He has also supported marketing operations as a medical business expert for over 20 projects.

Prior to coming to H*Works, Dr. Smalto practiced anesthesia for over 10 years and was the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Tampa Children's Hospital in Tampa, FL, as well as their Director of Pediatric Anesthesia. He was also a Managing Partner for Universal Anesthesia Care, PA and Universal Management Associates Company.

Gary Smalto is an accomplished strategic planner with strong management skills who proactively anticipates problems and addresses them skillfully and creatively. He has keen observational and analytical skills and grasps promising opportunities quickly. He has a proven track record of using his excellent collaboration skills to facilitate agreement between diverse clientele across multiple divisions for the purpose of project management, contract negotiation, or product sales.

Dr. Smalto has extensive academic, professional, corporate, and hospital experience in strategy, operations and marketing. He is regarded as a knowledge expert in surgical operations and marketing.




MARY WORZALA, MA



With nearly twenty years of international experience in energy efficiency and market development, Mary Worzala has a proven track record of energy efficiency program management. Ms. Worzala has held senior management positions on contracts in the former Soviet Union, Asia and the Middle East. She has successfully worked to develop joint ventures and partnerships between US firms and institutions and those of other countries, including project development work and feasibility studies for multilateral development bank funding including IBRD, EBRD, and ADB.

Her experience includes energy efficiency project design, implementation and management; project financing and project evaluation. Ms. Worzala has managed energy efficiency programs that have implemented more than 100 pilot projects utilizing mostly local labor and materials. Countries of work experience include Angola, Ghana, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, India, China, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Philippines and Thailand. She has managed projects that range in size from $15,000 to $6.4 million, supervising activities of both staff and subcontractor technical and administrative personnel.

Ms. Worzala is currently the Director of Energy Programs for the Academy for Educational Development in Washington, DC.






OLIVIA WARE, MBA



Olivia Ware is an expert in project management, marketing, and strategic planning.  She has more than 15 years of experience in healthcare management.  While at Genentech, Ms. Ware was a marketing leader for major oncology drugs in the Genentech portfolio, including, Rituxan, Herceptin and Avastin.  As the Avastin®  Brand Director, Ms. Ware guided the most successful oncology therapeutic launch measured by first year sales, speed of market adoption and time to eventually reach $1 billion in sales.   She was also a Senior Director in the Product Portfolio Management Group at Genentech, managing a group of 20 senior leaders responsible for building and leading the cross-functional drug development teams that develop and implement strategic plans and guide the drug development process for all oncology products at Genentech.

Prior to Genentech, Ms. Ware worked in healthcare consulting for Baxter Healthcare; and was the western region general manager for a large national home healthcare company. 

Ms. Ware received her A.B. from Davidson College in North Carolina and her MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.




R. DARIN HOLLINGSWORTH



Darin Hollingsworth brings to the Abundance Fund over 20 years of experience and leadership from the non-profit sector as both a professional fund-raiser and nonprofit executive director. Additionally, he has experience as a financial adviser who worked with non-profit organizations on endowment management, board governance and fund raising, as well as with high-net-worth clients and donors who wanted to make an impact by engaging in philanthropic planning.
 
In his professional experience as well as through volunteer service, Mr. Hollingsworth has served on boards of directors for arts, healthcare and community organizations. He enjoys building relationships that are mutually beneficial between inspired individuals and worthwhile organizations.
 
Mr. Hollingsworth brings his passion for empowering transformation for people and organizations through personal coaching, consulting and as philanthropy concierge.
 



CATHLEEN AHEARN, MBA


Cathleen Ahearn brings 20 years of marketing and strategic planning experience to the Abundance Fund.  Currently a Disease Area Director with the Roche Group, Ms. Ahearn is accountable for providing strategic direction and global commercialization plans for key assets in the early stage oncology portfolio and is a key contributor to business development assessments and disease area / portfolio strategies for the oncology business unit. She is well regarded within the organization for her strategic agility and expertise in the oncology marketplace.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Ahearn progressed through multiple roles of increasing scope and responsibility, first with Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals and subsequently with Genentech. Her experience includes strategic planning, launch planning and execution, budgeting and forecasting, P&L accountability, lifecycle management, positioning and messaging, advocacy development, sales, and communications. In her early career, Ms Ahearn worked in advertising with a focus on public health communications initiatives

Ms Ahearn holds a BA in Psychology from UCLA and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.



STEFANI WOLFF




Stefani Wolff has over 20 years working in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. She has held a multitude of positions, including global and US marketing (both in-line and development), market research, sales, development and operations.

Stefani started her career at Eli Lilly in 1986 and moved to Genentech in 1997. She worked in a number of therapeutic areas, including Neurology, Oncology, Endocrine, Immunology and CV.

Stefani was most recently a Senior Director at Genentech, where she lead the department responsible for Advisory and Thought Leader services for all the Genentech’s brands. Prior to this position, she was instrumental in building the Oncology business and was the head of Rituxan marketing from launch until it became Genentech’s 1st billion dollar product. As the Rituxan Project Team Leader working in development, she lead the expansion from Oncology into RA, MS, and other high unmet need auto-immune diseases.

Stefani has degrees in Chemistry and Pharmacy and worked as a scientist in Genetics at UNC prior to joining industry.

MUSA BASSADI JAWARA, MA
Member of the Advisory Board for Gambia


Musa Jawara has a unique background and brings exceptional economic development experience to the Abundance Fund. Musa has more than a decade of experience working on economic development projects in sub-Saharan Africa, South-East Asia and the Middle-East.

He is a fellow of the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Fund, received a Bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, matriculated in Tokyo, Japan, and earned a Master's degree in economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Teneessee.

Musa, who hails from Gambia, is now an American citizen. He is a member of our Advisory Board for West Africa.
